Retiring Tafelmusik music director Jeanne Lamon received the Howard Mayer Brown Award for her lifetime achievements. University of Southern California teachers Rotem and Adam Gilbert won the Thomas Binkley Award for outstanding achievement in scholarship and performance with collegia and college ensembles. And Pacific Northwest early strings performer Margriet Tindemans was given the Laurette Goldberg Early Music Outreach Award for her achievements in educational and outreach projects. An award ceremony will take place at EMA's annual meeting during the Berkeley Festival & Exhibition in June. www.earlymusic.org/emaannual-awards Toronto-based Tafelmusik, directed by Jeanne Lamon, was recently named "Touring Artist of the Year" by the Canadian Arts Presenting Association. Lamon was also appointed in January to the Order of Ontario, the prov- ince's highest official honor. IndyBaroque Music, Inc., and the Early Music Institute at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music recently announced the three finalists in the 2014 Indianapolis Baroque Orchestra Concerto Rosenberg to Be New EMAg Editor Early Music America has selected Donald Rosenberg as the next editor of Early Music America magazine. The Winter 2014 issue will be the first to be published under his direction. Rosenberg succeeds Benjamin Dunham, who has served as EMAg editor since 2002. Rosenberg comes to EMA with extensive writing experience, having served as an arts reporter and classical music critic at The Plain Dealer in Cleveland since 1992. His articles have been published in Gramophone, Symphony, and Early Music America magazines, in Opera News, and on the NPR Music web site. He teaches music criticism at Oberlin College and is a lecturer at Case Western Reserve University's Laura and Alvin Siegal Lifelong Learning Program. Rosenberg also served as president of the Music Critics Association of North America. "It is an honor to join Early Music America in reaching out to professionals and enthusiasts who champion this rich artistic field. I look forward to working with Ann Felter, the board, the staff, and a host of writers while building on Ben Dunham's significant achievements as editor," said Rosenberg. Executive Director Ann Felter stated, "I am very excited about working with Don. He has great ideas, a clear vision and understanding of the wide range of constituents we reach, and will bring a true team approach to our programs." President Christopher Bone added, "EMA welcomes Don Rosenberg as our next distinguished editor of Early Music America magazine. We look forward to adding him to our team as EMA pursues initiatives to support the field of early music." Rosenberg may be contacted at donemag@earlymusic.org. 4 Students rehearse ahead of their concert during the seventh annual Saint Paul (MN) Early Music Day in March, hosted jointly by the Saint Paul Conservatory of Music, Lyra Baroque Orchestra, and the Baroque Room. Two dozen professionals, amateurs, and enthusiasts of all ages convened to experience the art of playing with experts in the field. Summer 2014 Early Music America Competition. The finalists are violinists Shan Jiang and Augusta McKay and flutist Kelly Roudabush. All graduate students at the Early Music Institute, the three gave a celebratory performance with the Indianapolis Baroque Orchestra in February. The Handel and Haydn Society recently received its third gift of $1 million, given anonymously to support longterm priorities, including fiveyear strategic initiatives, bicentennial events, and the endowment. This gift, from a donor outside the board, comes as the organization approaches its bicentennial in 2015. Conductor Andrew Parrott will receive the fifth biennial York Early Music Festival Lifetime Achievement Award in July at the National Centre for Early Music in York, U.K. He is perhaps best known for his pioneering work with his Taverner Consort and he also once served as music director of the New York Collegium. A champion of the viola da gamba, Grace Feldman was honored for her 50 years of teaching at the the Neighborhood Music School in New Haven, CT, with a potluck dinner on March 15. Baroque cellist Gretchen Claassen won the second annual Claassen Jeffrey Thomas Award from San Francisco ensemble American Bach Soloists. A recent graduate of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, Claassen has emerged as "one of the leading newcomers within Northern California's historically informed performance community," according to a February announcement of the award. Comings & Goings Andrea Kalyn, a longtime associate dean of the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, has been named the new dean of the conservatory. She succeeds David H.
