affair to nail down a deal, but we got it done. I refer to it as my Victor Kiam moment; I liked it so much I bought the company. Are you still working on the same fleet segments? Yes. In Europe, there’s a clear distinction on weight. Anything heavier than 5,700 kilograms (12,500 pounds) requires different certification, which is a whole new game on staffing and tooling. It’s what we know, and there are plenty of people who know the heavier side of things. Even though we are able to work on larger aircraft under our FAA repair station approval, we stay with what we know. The airport is Cranfield, a regional facility about 50 miles north of London. It’s more of a training airfield. Most of the work we do on King Airs and the Cessna 400 series, for example, is for aircraft based elsewhere. Would you do it again? Are you satisfied with the business? Very satisfied. Obviously, the current climate isn’t great; it’s difficult. There’s very little happening on the single-en-
gine side of the market. People are barely affording to run the aircraft, never mind investing in new avionics. But, having said that, the manufacturers are still bringing out great new products – Garmin’s GTN series are fabulous – and I think that’s going to keep the market going. I think we should be grateful Garmin and many of the other manufacturers are investing in that part of the market. We are heavily involved on the maintenance side of things, and we do quite well. I think that’s a key part of our business, and we work very hard at it. We made a conscious decision when we bought the company to attract new business constantly and pushed that to the maintenance side rather than to avionics. As we all know, if you do a good job on the maintenance side, customers come back every year. That was a key part of the business, and, of course, there are spin-offs.
