creative on the use of this new technology, other countries did not follow suit knowing the U.S. Department of Defense could flip the switch at any time and completely disable the new form of navigation. Other countries were not willing to spend millions of dollars on a system that utilized signals controlled by the U.S. Of course, this was not the first time the international community chose not to work together on a common solution, but it sure makes you wonder where we would be as a civilization if we were able to work together on these marvels. Today, China, India, Russia and Europe are all spending billions of dollars to put up their own navigation systems
that they control. It’s a shame we just couldn’t pool our resources for a common goal. Hopefully, we will see world leaders in our lifetime able to convince different countries to work together for the common good on systems that will benefit everyone and make our skies safer. It simply takes a leader with a vision and the courage to champion the idea. Hopefully, the next generation will see the big picture better than our generation did and will take the first step. q
