ow to sum up the 55th annual Aircraft Electronics Association International Convention and Trade Show? One way would involve looking at the numbers: More than 1,400 of your peers in the avionics manufacturing, retailing and installing industries met in Washington, D.C., April 3-6. More than 110 companies presented their products and services in the AEA Exhibit Hall, and more than $100,000 in scholarships were awarded to avionics and aviation maintenance students. In addition, 27 companies introduced new products and services to the industry. Attendees participated in a wide range of activities and meetings, including training workshops, regulatory briefings and industry awards, to name only a handful of the attractions during the four-day show. Not enough for you? What about the show’s look and feel? This year’s theme – “Take Pride. Take Ownership. Take Back Your Industry.” – highlighted the central role members play in the AEA. And, since involvement is
the name of the game in any organization representing a worldwide industry, everywhere at this year’s show were new opportunities for members to become more involved in their association. For example, several hundred of the avionics industry’s participants ate, drank and networked with their colleagues at the First-Nighter Party with steamed crabs and related fare. Other formal opportunities, such as the AEA Annual Awards Luncheon and the Last Call Reception, were held throughout the week, which allowed attendees to spend quality time with their peers, their competition and others. In fact, professional networking is one of the main reasons attendees from around the world came to Washington for this year’s show. An informal survey reflected this, with show-goers uniformly looking forward to opportunities to meet people they have only spoken
