and distributors, arrive at higher industry standards and more open communications. “Our thought was to get the shops talking to each other, get them acquainted, and get some cooperation,” Peacock said. “In that first meeting, we all discovered we are a bunch of guys in the same type of business with the same type of problems.” Together, these men laid the foundation for an association that has now grown into an international organization representing nearly 1,300 member companies, including government-certified international repair stations specializing in maintenance, repair and installation of avionics and electronic systems in general aviation aircraft. Today, the AEA membership also includes manufacturers of avionics equipment, instrument repair facilities, instrument manufacturers, airframe manufacturers, test equipment manufacturers, major distributors, engineers and educational institutions.
“Today, the majority of Avionics News readers are the owners, managers and technicians of Part 145 repair stations who sell, service and install avionics. They are in the position to recommend products to the end-users – their customers.”
Philip Stomberg, Eugene Baker, Calvin White, D.R. Anderson, E.C. Panisiddi, Lee Langford, Robert T. O’Conner and Joseph F. Munizza. Peacock was elected AEA president, and Baker was named executive director. Soon, the need for members to effectively communicate with each other became apparent. As a result, the first AEA Newsletter was published in May 1958, just two months after the AEA was incorporated. Bob Anderson was the first editor. He collected and typed the information for the two-page newsletter, and mimeographed copies were stapled and sent to the
