SHADIN AVIONICS received TSO
approval on the initial release of the flyTab
Aircraft Interface Module, a data converter
that integrates an iPad into the cockpit
accessing real-time flight data for iPad
applications. The AIM was developed
in collaboration with the Avionics and
Systems Integration Group as a part of
the flyTab Class 2 Electronic Flight Bag
solution announced in October 2012.
According to the company, the current
model AIM provides an ARINC 429
interface for two iPads from a single unit.
Based upon Shadin’s Avionics Interface
Systems converter platform, additional
interfaces like ARINC 429, RS-232,
RS-422, RS-485, discrete and MILSTD-1553 data can be easily added and
certified. Potential iPad EFB App uses for
this data include aeronautical charting,
own ship position, chart centering, FMS/
GPS information (position, altitude,
groundspeed, track, origin, flight plan
and destination, time), real-time weather,
ACARS messaging and customer/thirdparty specific applications, using the
flyTab SDK developed by SpatiOS, and
AppOrchard company.
The flyTab AIM is part of Shadin’s family
of AIS data converters, designed to quickly
respond to an ever-present demand for unique
flightworthy data conversion applications on
aircraft. The AIM now joins AIS-380 analog,
AIS-360 digital, AIS-450 synchro and AIS460 military 1553 in Shadin’s family of FAAcertified data converters.

Century Flight Systems
CENTURY FLIGHT SYSTEMS, a manufacturer of autopilots since 1983,
announced it has received supplemental type certificates from the FAA for the
installation of its Century 4000 autopilot in Piper PA-28-140 Cherokee Cruiser, PA-28150, PA-28-160 and PA-28-180 Cherokee aircraft, the PA-32-301, -301T, PA-32R-301
and -301T Saratoga aircraft, and for most variants of the Cessna 182 Skylane aircraft
and the Cessna 421B and 421C Golden Eagle.
Expected shortly are the STCs for the Piper Twin Comanche and Beech Bonanza models.
“These aircraft are in use throughout the world,” said BILL EUBANKS, president of
Century Flight Systems. “There are significant improvements to be gained by updating
older aircraft with modern instrumentation and flight control systems, and Century Flight
Systems is working closely to bring increased safety- and performance-enhancing
technology to more and more aircraft.”
According to the company, the C4000 uses advanced digital and analog circuitry
to process position plus rate data to produce the most accurate and comfortable flight
dynamics available in rough or smooth air. This, along with the fact that position plus
rate autopilot do not need to disengage in turbulent air, makes for an autopilot that
is safer and more convenient to fly. Standard features include GPS/VOR/LOC/LOC
REV coupling, fully automatic glideslope coupling from above or below, selected angle
intercept capability when using an HSI (45 degree intercepts using a DG), altitude hold,
voice prompter, attitude hold command, auto-trim or trim prompting.
