hile you may not know much about Century
Helicopters, it’s likely you’ve heard of or even
used the maintenance tracking software the
company helped pioneer. Since opening in 1978, the Fort
Collins, Colo.-based helicopter service
center has always looked for
ways to operate more
efficiently and
make aircraft
ownership easier
for customers. As
computers gained
ground in business, Century
worked with a local vendor, helping
to develop software geared to aviation’s specific needs.
Today, that software, known commercially as CompuTrak,
brings sophisticated maintenance tracking to everyday
personal computers and iPads.
“We needed an easy way to track all of the labor hours,
parts and aircraft,” said Mike Hansen, general manager
of Century Helicopters. “CompuTrak provides a central
repository for all of this information. We can easily produce
costs of operations for our customers, project future
maintenance requirements and costs, and track our own
performance. We can see if what we’re doing is efficient and

help identify where a mechanic may need further training.”
No, Century Helicopter doesn’t receive a percentage
of the software sales, but the service center enjoys the
same everyday benefits as any other aircraft maintenance
organization, including tracking all individual parts as
required by the Federal Aviation Administration.
“Century’s entire business process is built around
the use of CompuTrak,” Hansen said.
“When an aircraft arrives, a work
order is opened, task lists are
generated from the maintenance
tracking, parts are purchased and
brought into inventory or checked out to the work
order, labor is tracked for each task, and, finally, the
customer is invoiced.”
The program also helps manage a customer’s aircraft so
they can plan for future maintenance and downtime, as well
as track costs associated with operating their aircraft.
Located at the foot of the Rocky Mountains about 65
miles north of Denver and some 30 miles from the Wyoming
border, Century Helicopters provides maintenance, repairs
and inspections, component overhaul, refurbishments and
completions, as well as avionics installation and repair.
