just highlight what you want to do, and it gives you a menu of options. If you
want to enter a holding pattern, for example, you highlight that waypoint on
the MFD and click. It will give you a menu of things you can do. Just highlight and click - it's that simple."
Obviously, the CCD is not the only option BendixKing is making available
to AeroVue customers. The company has a long list of optional capabilities,
including TCAS, EGPWS, weather radar, XM weather, electronic charts and
maps with vertical terrain profile, radar altimeter and more.

Another thing BendixKing learned from its King Air owner/operator interviews was that the majority of these folks use their airplanes as business
tools, and they wanted to stay productive while their new AeroVue autopilot
was cruising along at FL270.
"Given the prevalence of smartphones and iPads and everyone's expectations to be connected wherever they are, we just felt it was important enough
to make our AeroWave 100 satellite connectivity system standard," Dykmann
said. "Now our pilot/owners can do texting or get emails in the cockpit, and
their passengers can stay connected in the cabin."

More than you thought for less than you'd expect
Like everything in the avionics business, you can't talk about all the cool
features and benefits without someone raising the question of cost. Quite
frankly, the answer may receive a look of disbelief.
"While we don't set the flyaway/installed price for our products - only our
authorized BendixKing dealers can do that - based on our research and talking to our dealers about what it will take to install our system, we believe an
owner can install the standard AeroVue system for about $100,000 less than
the competition," Dykmann said. "Of course, there's a lot of variability in
every installation."
But with the experience of the recent installation the company completed in its King Air, along with Executive Aircraft Maintenance, Dykmann
is confident the majority of King Air owners will see a significant cost
savings.
"It took the efforts of many talented people, but we were able to build the
new wiring harness and install the AeroVue panel in two-weeks," he said.
"The combination of our modular architecture and the experience of the technicians and engineers made a very complex process a bit more streamlined.
We just got it all done in time to fly it to Oshkosh. I certainly wouldn't want
an avionics shop to quote that kind of turnaround, but we did it."
Speaking of quoting turn times, Dykmann said that after leaving the Oshkosh display, the company's King Air returned to Scottsdale, Arizona, to
continue flight-testing for the autopilot and RVSM compliance.
"We expect the flight test program to take a number of weeks," he ex
plained. "Then we will continue with the FAA, and if all goes according to
plan, we anticipate getting the TSO and the STC completed by the first quar
ter of 2015."
