t's been a whirlwind lately for Advanced Helicopter Services. The once
small business with just 10 people is
now a busy working shop of more than 40
employees. During the last four years, the
Sacramento, Calif.-based service center
has moved to larger facilities, tripled its
employees, and most recently, expanded
its services and capabilities by adding a
new avionics department.
The EASA- and FAA-authorized Part
145 repair station was already an authorized service center for American Eurocopter, AgustaWestland, Enstrom and
Robinson airframes with maintenance
authorization for MD and Bell Helicopter
airframes, and, one of the few in North
America to offer Turbomeca Level 3 engine maintenance.
Customers all around the world often
call on Advanced Helicopter Services'
engine field maintenance team to work
on their aircraft in remote and challenging places, including Central and South
America, Mexico, Africa, Europe, Asia
and the Caribbean. With the technical
knowledge, experience and state-of-the46

art tooling, the team is prepared to travel
globally at any time to provide on-site
maintenance and support.
But, husband and wife owners, Sparrow and India Tang, wanted to offer customers even more - avionics maintenance
and installation capabilities. To help with
the expansion, the Tangs enlisted the help
of retired avionics expert William Dolf.
The high-time pilot with 40 years of experience in military and civilian avionics,
including sales, bench repair, installation
and repair station operations, had the ability to help AHS build a new avionics department from scratch. Dolf was excited
to lend his expertise.
