W
hen it comes to making music, one of the
places to go is Nashville, Tenn.
Known as "Music City" and "The Country Music Capital of the World," many of the recording artists
you hear on the radio call Nashville their home.
And when it comes to making avionics - and understanding them, installing them and maintaining them - the place to
go is the Aircraft Electronics Association. Like musicians in
Nashville, all the avionics industry's leading "players" work
through the AEA at one point or another.
For one week in March, the two were on the same stage
- Nashville's Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center - where the 57th AEA International Convention & Trade
Show took place. Some 1,568 representatives from avionics
manufacturers, installers, suppliers and maintenance organizations gathered to network, learn about the latest product innovations, get updates on regulatory policy, and hear manufacturer's recommendations for installation and repair.
The week featured major announcements from the AEA and
others in the industry, along with a series of well-deserved
recognitions and awards for past achievements, plus scholarships worth more than $125,000 for the next generation of
industry leaders.
With all that happening, what about the inevitable need to
compare Nashville's signature product - country music - to
the avionics industry? Do memorable performances by re-

Training and educational sessions
were organized throughout the
four-day event, covering topics
ranging from understanding the
European Aviation Safety Agency
and RVSM (reduced vertical
separation minimum) regulatory
requirements to safety management
systems, drug and alcohol testing
programs, and ideas on the business
opportunities available from the
widely anticipated growth in
unmanned aerial vehicles, or drones.
