7. Change your attitude. As silly
as it sounds, start each day with a
smile and a good attitude. Expect
things to go well. Interact with your
co-workers and employees to foster a
sense of belonging. Go to lunch with
a new employee, or call a favorite
customer or colleague for a chat.
Do whatever it takes to shake the
isolated, "boss-in-a-box" feeling. At
the same time, get away from your
workspace during the day, whether
it's for a few minutes of sunshine on

the ramp or another mental break.
And don't ignore your life outside of
work. Make time for the rest of your
life. A hobby, sport or other restorative activity that keeps you sane
now can recharge you going forward,
so bad times in one portion of your
life shouldn't preclude making the
best of the others. The same should
be said for exercising, eating right,
sleeping, spiritual practices and other
self-care activities.
8. Move forward. To achieve your
personal and company goals, add
some challenge to your work, suggested Trikha. Consider tackling a
parked project. A new service offering, marketing effort or social media

9. Learn something. Take a class
- any class. Sure, you've mastered
the nuts and bolts of your job years
ago, but it's not necessarily helping you or your shop move forward
into new opportunities. Learning is
reinvigorating, and you'll get extra
perks if it helps you overcome a skill
deficit. Similarly, reading relevant
books, studying other successful
organizations, or attending conferences, seminars or professional groups
can help you stretch your comfort
zone. Approaching your career with
a "beginner's mind" will help you
experience it with a new sense of
curiosity and exploration, suggested

10. Give back. Get a refresher
on the beginner mind by mentoring
new members of the trade or looking
for volunteer opportunities, whether
they're inside or outside the industry, suggested Mead. In both cases,
you'll get a broader view on your
situation. You'll help shape the next
generation of leaders, and you'll
gain something from hearing a new
perspective - and new love.
You didn't lose your passion for
your job overnight, and it probably
won't come back quickly either. But
appreciating the moments of joy in
your job, understanding your needs
that will lead to a fulfilling career
and taking action that moves you
forward keeps you on the right path.
