Airtech looks to training
to spur future growth

ince its start in 2011, Airtech has grown every year
by more than 200 percent - an amazing feat for a
family-owned and -operated Part 145 FAA-certified
repair station. Based in Cincinnati, Ohio, at Lunken Field,
Airtech specializes in service and support for business jet
aircraft.
The service center's experts
provide a wide range of services
from rapid aircraft-on-ground
support to scheduled routine
maintenance, including heavy
maintenance, inspections,
modifications, interior
refurbishments, non-destructive
testing and X-ray, engineering and
composite repair.
Mark Davis, founder and president, started the company
after losing his 10-year corporate maintenance position
during the recession. While working for a private business
jet operator, Davis had met a number of highly skilled
technicians. He brought them together under one roof
with a mission to provide reliable, cost-effective aircraft
maintenance, a much-needed service for operators based at
Cincinnati's historic Lunken Airport.
Airtech has grown during the last three years by

expanding its services. In April 2013, the company began
offering recertification for altimeters and transponder
systems.
"One of our customers operates a Galaxy G200,
which requires special skin mapping due to the RVSM
requirements," Davis said. "We
were able to work with AeroMech
in Seattle. They came to us, trained
and, subsequently, certified our staff
on the RVSM mapping requirements
and processes. Our customer was
extremely pleased with the short
duration of his recertification visit,
and he learned things about his
airplane that he didn't know, as well."
This year, Davis is emphasizing recurrent training,
including developing more in-house training to keep the
staff on top of emerging technologies and products.
"We're seeing more of an upswing in aircraft interior
technology updates," he said. "For example, we're getting a
lot of requests for Wi-Fi and satellite phone installations. It
is critical for us to strive to meet these demands, stay ahead
of the curve, and provide what the customer needs."
One training initiative involves developing a composite
damage evaluation and repair curriculum.
