dealers, supporting them at seminars and open houses,
and working the aviation trade shows. The ability to keep
connected to the team while on the road is one benefit of
technology, but a drawback is the communication delay
that comes when one must leave a message. "Technology
will never replace face-to-face conversation" with
customers or the rest of the sales and marketing team.
The sales team meets face-to-face twice a year, Power
added. "In January we meet someplace warm and exciting
for the sales kickoff meeting. We prepare for the year by
setting goals and objectives. We meet again midyear to go
over the next six months." The entire team also gets face
time when it unites at the major aviation events, such as
Sun 'n Fun, EAA AirVenture, the NBAA Convention &
Exhibition, HAI Heli-Expo, and the AEA International
Convention & Trade Show.
The sales managers attend the AEA Regional Meetings
in their territories, as well as field marketing events,
where they work with a FreeFlight dealer at a fly-in,

open house, lunch-and-learn or aviation day. In addition
to promoting the event, the sales reps set up a booth,
make a presentation on ADS-B, and conduct a raffle.
Another benefit of technology, said Campbell, is that
it has lightened his traveling load. "I don't carry a lot
of paper because I keep all of my brochures and other
literature in an online DropBox account," Campbell said.
"All I need is my business card and my iPad."
Also vital to FreeFlight's ability to stay connected
with its customers and dealer network is the company's
quick access to an actual aircraft.
"Our sales staff can fly directly to their dealers in
order to maximize the business we get on a monthly and
quarterly basis," Power noted.
In fact, FreeFlight is looking into purchasing its
own aircraft. "Our goal is to add ADS-B to it and take
it around the country to show what a positive impact
ADS-B is going to have on the air traffic system," she
said. q
