Blue Avionics
Blue Avionics is a relatively young avionics
consulting, sales and marketing, and product design and
manufacturing company. Its new BA-440 ARINC 429
router/filter is designed for dealers trying to accomplish
different types of projects but discover incompatibilities
in the aircraft's avionics communication bus. The
BA-440 is highly configurable, according to the
company's Ross Cairns, and includes four each ARINC
429 inputs and outputs, plus multiple, additional
discrete input and outputs. The BA-440 allows multiple
configuration options based on bus speeds, data labels
and filtering, and a new feature for the product includes
full data-block handling.
The router side of the BA-440 offers similar
configuration capabilities, including the ability to route
filtered data to any outputs or combination; a combiner,
which - as its name implies - allows combining filtered
data and routing the results to any outputs; and a switch
using discrete inputs to change the routing of filtered
input data to any outputs. The BA-440's configuration
capabilities also allows it to provide discrete inputs on
an ARINC 429 bus, modify labels, use Karnough Map
discrete combinations, create new labels with discrete
inputs and employ a logical "OR" mask to create
additional filters and manipulate data.
Cairns told attendees his company's newest product
achieved its first certification with Dassault Falcon,
as part of the ADS-B Out installation under DO-260B
on the Falcon 900EX/C, and expects follow-on STCs
aboard the Falcon 50EX, 900A/B, 2000 and 2000EX.
Additional STCs are underway and expected later in
2015 on the Bombardier
604/605, and 300. The

Cable Pro

Buller Enterprises
Larry Buller of Buller Enterprises briefed attendees at
the AEA Convention on his company's newest fabrication
support tool, the Cable Pro, a compact continuity tester
for multi-pin electrical and data cables. The Cable Pro
joins the company's other products, like the Panel Pro - a
computer-controlled router used to manufacture instrument
panels - plus various accessories and supplies designed to
make scratch-built avionics work easier and more organized.
Buller's Cable Pro is designed to help eliminate errors
from assembled wiring cables by testing not only one connection but all possible combinations to verify correct or
discover incorrect assembly. The device is software-driven.
According to the company, a "few clicks on your computer
reconfigures the Cable Pro to test a completely different
cable." Likewise, a simple mouse click starts testing, based
on a configuration file for the cable, using low-voltage
logic. Testing can be made continuous to check for intermittent contacts, even though the Cable Pro requires only
about 0.1 second to test 75 pins to each other, according
to the company, comprising some 5,625 possible combinations.
Testing is conducted by driving each pin high, then
checking all other pins for that signal. When testing is
complete, the Cable Pro generates a detailed report showing numerous parameters, including the tested cable's pass/
fail status. The Cable Pro is powered by the hosting personal computer through a USB cable, eliminating dangerous high voltages. It retails for $495, which includes the
Cable Pro tester itself, Cable View software, a USB cable,
a logic probe and a one-year warranty.
