FreeFlight's Equip-It 2020 program
features its RANGR Lite product line

2020 program, an
effort to provide ADS-B equipment that breaks the $2,000 barrier for a basic but
complete system.
FreeFlight's Equip-It 2020 program features its RANGR
Lite product line in two configurations: an ADS-B Out-only
system, the FDL-978-TXL, and an ADS-B In/Out system, the
FDL-978-XVRL. The company said it is committed to building 10,000 of these systems in an effort to reduce costs to
the general aviation community and is offering them through
participating dealers. According to FreeFlight, both systems
come complete with built-in WAAS GPS and include ADS-B
and GPS antennas, an install kit, plus a control head and/or
Wi-Fi module if needed. The bare-bones FDL-978-TXL is listpriced at $1,995, while the high-end FDL-978-XVRL retails
for $3,695.
Both are based on FreeFlight's RANGR Blue Box product
line, with some reduced feature sets. For example, the RANGR
Lite systems are not diversity-capable and the ADS-B In/Out
FDL-978-XVRL is able to display free FIS-B weather and
TIS-B traffic only with FreeFlight's Wi-Fi module and only on
a portable device.
FreeFlight Systems also introduced its FRA-5500 radar
altimeter, a Level B-capable system designed to meet requirements for Part 29 rotorcraft, plus the FTX-200/250 all-in-one
ADS-B solution for Part 25 transport-category airplanes.

Garmin Vantage product line, the company told attendees at
the AEA Convention. "Regardless of what type of aircraft you
fly, where you fly or what you're looking to get out of ADSB, pilots can depend on a Garmin Vantage ADS-B solution
to exceed their needs and keep them flying," said Carl Wolf,
Garmin's vice president of aviation sales and marketing in a
release announcing the move.
According to the company, thousands of its customers have
an easy upgrade path to meet ADS-B airspace requirements.
For example, owners with a GTX 330 or GTX 33 Mode S
transponder and a WAAS GPS position source can add an
extended squitter upgrade for $1,200, plus installation costs.
Other solutions include the company's GDL 84 and GDL 88
datalink boxes, which interface with a wide range of general
aviation transponders and receive on both approved ADS-B
frequencies, while the GDL 84H and GDL 88H meet the needs
of U.S. helicopter operators. Garmin Vantage ADS-B solutions
also are available for experimental amateur-built and light sport
aircraft via the noncertified G3X and G3X Touch systems and
the remote-mounted GTX 23 ES transponder.
In addition to linking together its various ADS-B solutions
under the Garmin Vantage product line, Garmin revamped its
online presence at ads-b.garmin.com. Using a series of graphics, videos and an interactive installation planner, the updated
site helps guide pilots to a Garmin Vantage solution tailored
to their individual aircraft and operations. The company also
plans a series of online ADS-B webinars for customers, discussing the technicalities surrounding ADS-B and common
questions, plus highlighting the safety benefits of ADS-B equipage.
