As your new LPAD Chair, I’d like to invite you to participate in this year’s LPAD agenda. Some of the players and even our structure have changed, but our goal remains steadfast: to provide the tools to assist you in practicing anesthesiology at the highest level in California’s challenging regulatory, legislative and economic environment. At the CSA House of Delegates (HOD) in May 2013, Paul Yost, MD, ascended from the office of LPAD Chair to become President-elect. In his considerable wake, I advanced to Chair of LPAD, and welcomed Jeffrey Poage, MD, to succeed me as Vice Chair for Legislation. Without question, LPAD could not have been as productive as it has been over the past three years without Dr. Yost’s leadership and vision. Some of the many successes during his tenure were: the development of the CSA Grassroots Network and Key Contacts in Sacramento; the installation of Capwiz (software for online advocacy campaigns); and the institution of Bill Tracking on the CSA website, with which legislative bills of interest may be viewed real time at http://www.csahq. org/legislative.php. In addition, LPAD synergized with the new public relations (PR) and messaging efforts of the Committee on Professional and Public Communication (CPPC), led by Karen Sibert, MD, and put in place structural changes to improve the capacity of LPAD to work effectively in consort with our lobbying team. Speaking for myself and indeed the entire CSA, we thank Dr. Yost for his engaging leadership and mentoring. We all look forward with relish to his presidency in 2014–2015. Goals LPAD continues to work on the specific goals set forth by the CSA membership during the 2012 and 2013 sessions of the HOD: message development, public relations, stakeholder education, and legislative options to protect patients and ensure physician-led anesthesia care. We will be entering into the public policy debate regarding the importance to the health and well-being of patients of physician leadership within integrated care teams, and will be sponsoring and supporting legislation to enhance patient safety. http://www.csahq.org/legislative.php http://www.csahq.org/legislative.php
