FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Meet the Team
By Julie Kahlfeldt, Executive Director
T
he recent CSA Board
of Directors retreat was
particularly productive, with
great discussion and a plan
for forward movement. CSA
President Dr. Peter Sybert
reminded the Board and
committee members that CSA has hired a new lobbying
firm and public relations firm to meet the strategic goals
set in place at the January Board retreat.
The day prior to the retreat, committees and divisions
met to brainstorm and strategize about the future.
Exciting opportunities presented to the Board include
the launch of the newly reformatted CSA Annual
Meeting in San Francisco, and the promise of improved
practice and professional resources for members - the
goals are to make CSA the No. 1 resource for physician
anesthesiologists in California and the most influential
state component society within ASA.
With the spirit of change in mind, a quote from George
Bernard Shaw:
Progress is impossible without change, and those who
cannot change their minds cannot change anything.
While we may not have changed the world that
weekend, the Board members - CSA officers and
District Directors - are definitely agents of change.
They are fortunate to be supported by a terrific team
of association professionals dedicated to the forward
motion set forth by the Board. I'd like to introduce you
to them in the paragraphs that follow.
Marguerita
de Senna,
Marketing and
Communications
Manager
Ms. de Senna handles all
digital, print, and web
communications, including the CSA website, the
"CSA Online First" blog, CSA Bulletin, social media
platforms, and the organization's marketing material.
She helps put the society's overall marketing strategy
and plan into action, develops resources for both the
organization and the public, and provides technical
solutions to improve efficiency.
A saying attributed to Margaret Mead spoke to me quite
forcefully as I reflected on the weekend's discussions.
It reinforces my belief that a group can be just as
successful as an individual and, in some instances,
perhaps even more so:
Ms. de Senna comes with a unique and diverse background, and is equipped with a wide range of skills -
technical, creative, and "edu-taining." A two-time cum
laude graduate of Columbia University, with a bachelor
of science degree in electrical engineering and a master
of science degree in education/nutrition, she has four
years' experience in marketing and social media.
Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful,
committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, its
the only thing that ever has.
Outside the office, Ms. de Senna enjoys writing, as well
as photography and adventures with her daughter.
