Our CA-2 and CA-3 residents are encouraged to use
their time and talents to make a difference in their own
life and the lives of others by participating in global
health opportunities, such as medical missions in the
Guatemala and the Philippines.
In addition to our three-year echocardiography
curriculum, we have implemented a four-year
ultrasound curriculum for residents. The program offers
online and on-site learning module training, basic and
advanced lectures, simulation and OSCE sessions, a
clinical rotation, and board review sessions. In 2018,
seven residents are expected to participate in the Basic
Echocardiography Examination and be certified by the
National Board of Echocardiography. Our simulation
center continues to grow with very successful MOCA
Simulation programs conducted for anesthesiologists
and those requiring revalidation.
Our residents continue to be involved with institutional
and national educational organizations. Hamed
Sadeghipour, CA-2, is a Foundation for Anesthesia
Education and Research scholar. Christy Slingwine,
CA-3, is a CSA delegate, Murad Arif, CA- 2, is the
alternate CSA delegate, and Adam Milam, CA-1, is the
CSA Observer. These organizations allow the residents
to participate in workshops, scientific sessions, exhibits,
refresher courses, and the resident component activities
at the ASA national meeting. All residents participate in
the annual Western Anesthesia Residents Conference
and the ASA annual meeting each year.
Within Cedars-Sinai, Christy Slingwine, CA-3, and
Michael Bingham, CA-2, are involved in the Housestaff
Educational Committee, while Valerie Au, CA-3,
and Murad Arif, CA-2, are involved in the Graduate
Medical Education Committee. Adam Milam, CA1, is a participant in the Clinical Scholar Program,
which educates physicians in translational research,
in a spirit of creativity and independence, to optimize
their chances of success in becoming productive
clinical researchers. The Leadership in Healthcare
Improvement Program is a unique opportunity to

further develop their leadership potential while gaining
hands-on experience conducting a quality improvement
project.
Our faculty and residents have a very productive
collaborative relationship. Residents continue to
be involved in the revision and modification of the
point of care ultrasound program, echo curriculum,
the simulation curriculum, OSCE curriculum and
the medical student curriculum, the creation of the
ultrasound curriculum, and in a simulation boot camp
for CA-3 residents. Our recent graduates have been
accepted to fellowships all over the country and gone
on to work in prestigious academic and private practice
positions. We are looking forward to another successful
year in 2018!
