original signed costume was the centerpiece of the March 29, 2014 Theriault's
auction of the collection of Frau Steiner, proprietor of the Stein Am Rhein Doll
Museum. The 22-inch boy circa 1916 realized just over $300,000, breaking the
world record for a doll sold at auction.

SUMMER 2014
ometimes great events spring from casual
conversations. This was the case when
Janet Gula, Director of ReAL Services, mentioned
to Julie Blewis that the UFDC Museum was in
need of new cases for our growing collection
but was concerned about where the funding
would come from. Julie immediately came up
with an idea. She would match donations up to
$5,000 toward new cases and also, along with
her husband Gordon, would host a fundraising
event for the museum. Julie then approached
Florence Theriault and Stuart Holbrook to ask
for their support of the event during the weekend
of Theriault's March Marquis auction in Naples,
Florida. Theriault's generously agreed to not only
promote the event but also to supply a shuttle bus
from the hotel where the auction was being held to
the Blewis' home.
What followed was one magical weekend.
Julie and Gordon Blewis graciously opened their
home to collectors in town for Theriault's auction
of the legendary doll collection of Frau Steiner,
proprietor of the Stein Am Rhein Doll Museum,
formerly of Switzerland. Through the generous
contributions of Julie Blewis, Theriault's, the
auction attendees and UFDC members who were
unable to attend the event, $15,000 was raised.
On March 29, 2014 attendees were treated
to the auction of the amazing collection of the
Puppenmuseum Stein am Rhein. The Albert
Marque boy doll, which was the centerpiece
of the auction, sold for just over $300,000
shattering the previous world record set in 2009
for a doll at auction.
