President's Message
A
s the song said "You can't always get what you want, but
if you try sometimes, you just might find, you get what
you need." The Rolling Stones probably did not have
UFDC in mind when they recorded that lyric but as I look at the
great strides we have made in fundraising over the past few years I
keep hearing that line in my head.
In 2010 when the leadership of UFDC, your Board of Directors,
established a standing Fundraising Committee UFDC had been
receiving very little in the form of donations. Since that time the
committee has worked diligently on behalf of the membership to raise awareness of our need
for ongoing donation support. Their message, that UFDC is a Charity, that if doll collectors
do not support UFDC no-one else will, that we as a group have the means to secure a stable
financial future for our organization has been heard by an increasing number of members.
At times the committee has brought special needs to the attention of our members and you
have responded with an outpouring of support in every instance. Funds for a new fence, a day's
worth of utilities, new cases and conservation supplies for the museum, just to name a few.
The annual campaign begun three years ago has been building slowly but steadily with more
members responding to our long-term need for ongoing financial support.
We are getting what we need but wouldn't it be great if we could also get what we want?
What we want is to see UFDC endure, to continue to be a vital part of the doll collecting
world, to be able to grow in our ability to offer quality educational experiences for doll
collectors. We want to accomplish these goals without increasing dues or cutting back on
services.
This will only happen if we also continue to grow in the area of donations. So I am asking
each of you to consider how you can answer the call, every contribution, both great and small,
makes a difference. If every club could make a contribution, if every member who is able gives
something there will be no limit to what we can accomplish. By looking for a way to respond
to this need whether its through an annual financial contribution, the donation of items for the
eBay project or support for any of UFDC's designated funds we can all play a role in the future
of doll collecting.
Through your continued financial support we will be securing a rock solid base for our
organization and that will really be something to sing about!
