executive director ’ s report what a time it was! Jill Nowak F or a year, I spent most of my words in this column describing how great it would be to celebrate PCSO’s “Century of Smiles” at the 2012 Annual Session in Monterey. The anticipation was so great that I was afraid the reality would pale in comparison. Boy, was I wrong! We were thrilled to have over 1,300 members, staff, exhibitors and guests with us to enjoy everything about the four-day meeting. There is no better setting for a PCSO meeting than Monterey, and the city certainly rolled out the red carpet for us. The weather was delightful, the venues were beautiful and the parties were such fun. The lectures were full and evaluations of the speakers were outstanding. There were even rave reviews for the anniversary cake served during the President’s Lecture, when Dr. David Turpin gave us a look back at PCSO—and orthodontics—history. Dr. Lesley Williams said goodbye to years of board service as she exited the board as past president, and Dr. Bryan Williams began his year as president of the PCSO Board. Dr. Rob Merrill capped off a successful year as president, as we bid farewell to Directors Dr. Gib Snow of California and Dr. Bob Agnetta of Idaho. Dr. Frank Beglin completed his term as director from Nevada as he moved into the officer ranks as secretary-treasurer. The PCSO board welcomed new members Drs. Mark Handelin (Nevada), Dr. Kurt Stromberg (California) and Dr. Michael Pickard (Idaho.) The Post-Meeting in Carmel Valley offered the opportunity for extraordinary continuing education in an extraordinary setting. It is not an understatement to say it was a blissful few days spent at Carmel Valley Ranch. But after the bliss, it was back to work. Everyone was anxious to implement the plans made in Monterey, and work began immediately on a PCSO mobile app (an idea from our Critical Issues Task Force), a marketing blitz for the new and amazing electronic PCSO Bulletin format and even the treasure WINTER 2012 • PCSO BULLETIN 3
