Editor T CLICK ABOVE TO VIEW. here are a number of ways to educate the patient family. Many of us use the cartoon style image presentation in orthodontic software packages, such as Dolphin Aquarium. Another way is to use your own patient records, and put them in presentation software, such as Powerpoint or Keynote. The benefit of this is that you can customize text in the presentation, add other photos or even illustrations. It can be a short or long presentation. In my office we produced many of these presentations and can easily choose the one that fits the patient’s malocclusion very closely. Your treatment coordinator (TC) can present these programs and narrate them. The audio can be recorded as well if you prefer that the family watches the example on their own. These programs can be moved to laptops, smart phones or tablets, and the file can be emailed if your TC is doing a telephone consultation. I include here an example of one of our presentations, which the TC would discuss while showing the family. As an example of how one can help the family feel comfortable with the appearance of the braces, you will see that we did some editorializing by stressing the effectiveness of the Sapphire brackets we often used.
