PCSO BUSINESS COMPONENT REPORTS California CAO has many important initiatives underway… CAO is nearing the launch of public awareness campaign materials that have been under development the last few months. The initiative’s goal is to improve our members’ practices through statewide marketing and branding efforts. As the result of this project, members will be seeing a newly designed member website that offers more technical capability and more features as well as a new public site that will help educate the public on seeking treatment from those most professionally qualified to treat orthodontic cases. The campaign, which is being funded solely from CAO’s operating budget with NO dues increase or assessments, will also offer robust marketing tools and templates designed to attract new patients. educating parents on how to identify and understand various types of malocclusion. These brochures have also helped provide answers to many commonly asked questions, helping to take the fear and uncertainty out of a child’s initial visit to an orthodontist. This brochure is also intended for use in referring dental or pediatric dental offices when they describe the orthodontic problem to the parents at the time of referral. The brochure has recently undergone a total redesign and even has a new name! “Bite Down Early” has been retired and a new brochure entitled “Smile….. Now Let’s See Your Bite” has taken its place. The new brochure offers a more contemporary and professional look but still remains a valuable educational resource. In addition, CAO will soon be offering the brochures in Spanish and Chinese. These brochures are being marketed to pediatric dental offices as an educational tool when making orthodontic referrals. On Thursday, October 17, 2013, CAO will again be offering two CE courses immediately before PCSO Annual Session in San Diego. This year’s program will feature two lectures, “Scheduling, Commitment and Cooperation” presented by Mr. Ken Alexander and “Social Media: The Basics & Beyond” presented by Dr. Aaron Molen. Even though the program is tailored toward orthodontic staff, doctors are welcome to register and attend. You will be seeing much more about all these initiatives in future eblasts, articles, and definitely on the CAO website. —Paul Kasrovi, CAO President, Berkeley, CA CAO has been focusing efforts on promoting the benefits of CAO membership to new member orthodontists and on member retention. CAO sends new members a packet of materials that provides an overview of CAO as an organization as well as offers sample brochures and information on the resources and services available to members. Conversely, as CAO learns that a member does not intend to renew their membership, we are planning on sending a personalized letter asking the member to reconsider. CAO introduced its “Bite Down Early” legacy brochure a number of years ago and it has been a valuable resource in Schneider as CAO’s investment advisory firm. Over the past year, CAO’s portfolio has remained static, experiencing no growth. At the recommendation of the Reserve and Investment Committee, CAO’s investment policy was reviewed and adjusted to allow for a limited amount of funds to be invested in equities. Although the new policy allows for investment in the equity market, CAO will continue to maintain a conservative approach in order to preserve assets but allow the portfolio to appreciate in value.
