Aerospace Optics
Aerospace Optics’ VIVISUN line of illuminated pushbutton switches is based on what the company calls its innovative design and capability, and has been credited with many technological milestones. Building on its ability to develop highly capable switching options to the avionics industry, Aerospace Optics introduced its MFB (multi-function body) products at the AEA Convention. Daylight readability has long been a critical safety consideration in the cockpit, according to the company, and the VIVISUN products are designed for excellent contrast and color distinction in direct sunlight. When not illuminated, VIVISUN switches maintain a flat, non-reflective face with the legend completely hidden. The products also have a wide range of different lighting types, supporting many ambient light and operator-interface challenges. When equipped with the optional NVIS feature, VIVISUN products maintain sunlight readability for day operation and are fully compliant with MIL-STD-3009 Aerospace Optics’ for use with night vision goggles. According to Aircell, the app provides an avionics dealer with everything needed to walk a customer through all the options. The app displays all real-world connectivity possibilities, equipment configurations and complete block diagrams with full hardware pricing in any combination. Dealers may answer the customer’s requirements, and the app will recommend a solution. It also has the ability to build a solution from scratch. The second new tool is the Virtual Technician, a robust system which allows Aircell tech support group to gain direct access to Aircell equipment installed in an aircraft. It connects through the Internet with either a Wi-Fi or cellular connection in the hangar, or wherever the aircraft is remotely located. It offers live assistance or installation repair and troubleshooting to dealers. The third new tool is MyAircell, an online self-care portal. “It allows dealers to gain access to many of the functions that dealers are doing via phone, fax and email today,” Salvador said. “A host of possibilities exist with this functionality, including online order tracking, initiating and tracking RMAs, service subscriber agreements and other activities. This online portal is a huge time saver and efficiency enhancer for our dealers.” In addition, Aircell announced that it has established a new aviation scholarship program in conjunction with the AEA Educational Foundation. The Aircell Scholarship, in the amount of $2,500, will be available each year to high school seniors and/or college students who plan to attend, or are already attending, an accredited school in an avionics or aircraft repair program. Aspen Avionics
Based in Albuquerque, N.M., Aspen Avionics’ company philosophy is getting the latest avionics technology shouldn’t always mean spending a lot of money – on equipment or on installation. At this year’s AEA Convention, the features and capabilities built into the company’s products, plus the ability to work and play well with other companies, were on display. Aspen made several announcements involving partnerships with companies like Avidyne Corp., even as it rolled out its new Evolution Backup Display. For starters, Aspen’s Connected Panel products interface portable electric devices, like the iPad, to the aircraft’s installed avionics. Expected to be certified and released in the second quarter, Connected Panel will provide flight planning crossfill capabilities between connected enabled applications running on the iPad and the Garmin GNS WAAS navigators. According to the company, it will offer tighter integration and
