LICENSING AARDMAN PARTNERS WITH EGMONT PUBLISHING FOR SHAUN THE SHEEP AND
WALLACE AND GROMIT Aardman, the Academy Award winning stop-motion
animation studio, has appointed Egmont Publishing as its partner on Shaun
the Sheep and Wallace and Gromit. Egmont has acquired the publishing
rights to these flagship properties in the UK, Eire and the Commonwealth.
The license covers tie-in publishing rights for Aardman’s upcoming CBBC
show Shaun the Sheep and for Wallace and Gromit. Egmont will be launching
a range of titles in 2007, with more titles planned for 2008 and 2009.
Sean Clarke, Head of Marketing and Licensing at Aardman says “Egmont has
vast experience in creating innovative book ranges to complement brand new
TV shows and classic evergreen properties alike and we are delighted to be
working with them on two of our treasured properties.” David Riley,
Director of Egmont Publishing adds: “We are so proud to be working with
Aardman on both Shaun the Sheep and Wallace and Gromit. These are truly
wonderful properties that fit perfectly with our portfolio of classic
characters. Look out for some fantastic books!” Shaun the Sheep will
make its debut in the UK in 2007 on CBBC. Peace in the valley turns into
mayhem in the meadow as Shaun leads his flock into all sorts of scrapes
and scraps, running rings around sheepdog Bitzer when the Farmer’s back
is turned. Aimed primarily at children aged 4-8 years old, the 40 x
7-minute series has already been picked up by co-producer WDR in Germany
and has pre-sold to ABC Australia, TVNZ New Zealand, SVT Sweden, DRTV

UNIVERSAL EXEC TO JOIN AWARD-WINNING DVD TEAM FremantleMedia Enterprises
FME the commercial arm of FremantleMedia, has announced the appointment of
Chris Hendrie in the newly created role of Head of Acquisitions, DVD and
Home Entertainment. Hendrie has been brought in to acquire content
specifically for Fremantle Home Entertainment FHE , the award-winning arm
of FME, with his appointment bolstering the label’s recent drive to
strengthen its portfolio. He will focus on a wide range of genres, such as
film, live and scripted comedy,TV, drama and factual, and will work with
producers, rights holders and talent management agents. Hendrie will be
based in London, jointly reporting to Pete Kalhan Senior Vice President
Home Entertainment and Archive Sales and Mark Gray,Vice President
Co-Production and Acquisitions, who is responsible for acquiring TV
content. Mark Gray commented: “We are delighted to have Chris on board.
With his tremendous experience and industry knowledge, Chris will be a
great asset to the team and really help strengthen our position as one of
the leading global content distributors”. Hendrie joins FremantleMedia
from Universal Pictures where he was responsible for the acquisition of UK
programming in several genres including: stand up comedy, TV series,
interactive DVDs, sport, music, kids and fitness. CARTOON NETWORK’S BEN
10 EXTENDS INTO ALL NEW PRODUCT CATEGORIES As Ben Tennyson enjoys summer
adventures with his cousin Gwen and Uncle Max on Cartoon Network’s
original action-adventure series, Ben 10, Spring and Summer collections
are being planned for the brand, which is expanding into several new
categories for 2007. Cartoon Network Enterprises CNE , the network’s
global merchandising arm, has signed new softlines deals with Jay Franco
and Sons, Inc., Accessory Innovations and AME American Marketing
Enterprises, Inc. , that will bring a full line of bed, bath and beach
items, accessories, sleepwear and more to market in 2007. These new
partnerships for Ben 10 follow earlier announcements for the franchise in
children’s footwear and clothing with SG Footwear and ODM. The series
also has a successful toy line on shelf from Bandai America, Inc. that
includes transforming toys, role-play, action figures and playsets. “Ben
10 is gaining momentum in the marketplace,” said Christina Miller, US VP
of Consumer Products. “We look forward to bringing the appeal of the
show to market in more key categories through these new partnerships with
Jay Franco, Accessory Innovations and AME.” Jay Franco, a manufacturer
of licensed home furnishing, will create a full line of product based on
the show including beach towels, bedding, 3D character pillows, and
sleeping bags, as well as bath accessories including shower curtains,
toothbrush holders and wastebaskets. AME, a manufacturer of children’s
sleepwear for juniors and teens will develop pyjamas, lounge pants and
robes based on the show. Accessory Innovations, the newest players in the
accessory arena which manufactures both licensed and private label
collections, will develop a line of Ben 10 headwear including baseball
