NDRL aims to do cross promotion with TV, video, and music, with a voice casting on the internet to play a second role in the series. A classic children’s brand that continues to do well is Nelvana’s Babar. Babar had a successful 75th anniversary year in 2006 in France with the launch of the latest Laurent de Brunhoff book, Babar’s World Tour. A number of promotions took place during the anniversary year. A Babar stamp was released in June of 2006 during Stamp Fair in Paris, with 17.5 million stamps to be released. Babar joined promotions in 30 Fnac Eveil & Jeux stores in 2006 and partnered with Toys R Us for the opening of a new store in La Defense. Merchandise appeared in the famous mail order catalogue Les 3 Suisses and on their website for back to school 2006. In October of 2006, there was a partnership with hypermarket chain Auchan at 121 stores, and Babar was featured in their 10-million copy Christmas catalogue. November 2006 saw a holiday season partnership with Lansay Master Toy licensee and Monoprix supermarket with a dedicated Babar branded window and corners. Babar then appeared at Les Galeries Lafayette in December 2006, with a Babar corner and a parade. A collectible product line is in development, including a sculpture by Leblon-Delienne. Another Nelvana property doing well is Franklin which has more than 40 licensees in France covering all major categories including publishing, toys and games, apparel and accessories, food, health and beauty. Franklin is the fourth most beloved character for kids aged 1 to 6 years old in France source: Junior City Pre-kids’ Mirror - June 2006 . Over 10 million books have sold in France since 2000 by Hachette Livre - Les Deux Coqs d’Or France , and two million toys since 1999. Franklin airs on TF1, Piwi and Tiji. The movie Franklin and the Turtle Lake Treasure was released in December 2006 in France by Studio Canal. Events surro u n d i n g the release of the film included an in-store promotion with Auchan stores and Franklin’s attendance at the French President’s Garden Party at l’Elysée at Christmas 2006. Studio Canal will bring the movie to DVD. Franklin episodic DVDs have sold over 2.2 million copies since 1998 . Recent promotions for Franklin include Amora mustard, Lu cake from the Nestlé group, and SCA Personal Care/Up & Go diapers. Many new products were licensed in 2006 including candies, int e r a c t i ve , books, bags, and glasses. New products being developed for 2007 include books, textiles, and home entertainment. Miss Spider’s Sunny Patch Friends is another Nelvana production, broadcast on TF1. Licensed products include: inflatable beach balls and balls Smoby , bedding Belltex , shoes Best France , home entertainment TF1 Vidéo and Universal , interactive game Game Factory . Nelvana also has three new properties in France, Di-Gata Defenders, broadcast on TF1 and linked with pan European partnerships: playing balls Smoby , bed linens Belltex , interactive game Game Factory , Ruby Gloom, for which they are looking for partners in the categories of apparel, accessories, interactive, mobile and toiletries. Licensees already on board are Vadobag for bags and stationery and Belltex for bed linen. The third property is Grossology, for which Nelvana is looking for a master toy partner. Grossology also airs on TF1. Two properties enjoying great success in France are Marathon’s Totally Spies and Martin Mystere. Launched in 2002, Totally Spies is now in its fourth season, airing since April 2006 on TF1 twice weekly. New deals recently granted include Clementoni for board games, Spel for tableware, TF1 Videos for a video partwork collection, TF1 Games for DVD and board games and Jacquot for chocolate eggs and advent calendars. Deals currently in progress include Canal Team for toys and accessories and outdoor products, Goliath for Totally Spies dolls, Panini for publishing products such as sticker albums, René Lurde for hair accessories, key chains and jewellery and Upper Deck are working on a Yo card game. Martin Mystere was the number one cartoon in France for boys aged 6 – 10 IFOP inquiry July 2006 . In October 2006, it was voted the most popular program among children on M6. Since 2004 it has aired on M6 Kids on Wednesdays and Sundays. M6 will continue broadcasting the show until 2009. For 3 years, Martin Mystere has been broadcast on Canal J every day, it is currently broadcast 14 times a week.
