Avant-garde theatre. Romantic hideaways. Rich and distinct cultural traditions. You don’t need to take a trip around the world to experience the diversity of the above; you only need to plan a trip to Calgary. Known as the heart of the new west, Calgary is a four season, world-class destination where big city energy and cosmopolitan flair uniquely mixes with rich western heritage and our famous cultural traditions. Experience the pulse of a city like no other; where a multitude of experiences come together to create a vacation you’ll always remember, in a city you’ll never forget. Calgary is no more than one stop away from any major city in the world, and with non-stop flights available between Calgary and Kelowna via WestJet and Air Canada - travel to the city is both easy and convenient. Once here, a variety of valuable travel and accommodation packages await you. Best yet – the timing has never been better to plan a trip to Calgary. The city will host an array of major events throughout 2009, making for the perfect complement to our many exceptional attractions and things to see and do for visitors. And with the warmer weather upon us, Calgary’s famously blue and sunny skies will provide the perfect backdrop while you explore our burgeoning city. Summer is officially kicked-off each year with The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth, the Calgary Stampede. For ten days every July, Calgary attracts visitors from around the globe to celebrate the city’s authentic western heritage. From July 3-12, experience the grandeur of this larger than life event and all that it entails, including the richest outdoor rodeo in the world. From there, the equestrian lovers might like to visit Spruce Meadows and its worldclass showing jumping facilities. The Spruce Meadows North American Tournament will take place from July 1– 5 this year, and will feature all of North America’s best riders, competing for both the Champion title and significant prize money. For a change of pace, why not enjoy a Calgary festival. With more than 30 taking place throughout the year, the majority of which occur during the spring and summer months, there is surely something for everyone. With festivals dedicated to everything from food and wine to the variety of cultures that can be found in Calgary, as well as folk, reggae, blues and jazz music and everything in between, there is no shortage of options when it comes to cause for celebration. In addition to these Calgary staples, the city will heat up with several major events during the summer months. Consider scheduling an excursion around the inaugural Calgary Ironman 70.3. Whether a spectator or participant, experience this history-making event on August 2. Then, stick around for some competition of a different kind at the World Water Ski Championship Festival, being held from August 3-9. Taking place at the Lakes of KastynStone -- two specifically built water ski lakes operated by the Predator Bay Water Ski Club -- the event will feature a festival concept for the competition, including on-site music and entertainment, extreme sporting events, a trade exhibit, VIP seating, hospitality and much more. Or you could enjoy a summer’s-end getaway. Re-charge your batteries and include the CN Canadian Women’s Open in your itinerary. The event, scheduled for August 31 to September 6, will no doubt give you motivation to take a few swings on your own at one of the more than 40 golf courses located in and around Calgary. Calgary’s urban playground offers a range of experiences for you to enjoy. Test your 6 WWW.YLW.AERO Tourism Calgary http://WWW.YLW.AERO
