Yukon 2009 Vacation Planner - (Page 118) Y u K o N H i G H WAY A C C o M M o D AT i o N S Campgrounds & RV Parks Welcome to the Yukon government campground system Whether motoring in the comfort of a recreational vehicle or tenting under the midnight sun, we hope visitors will enjoy the Yukon’s cozy campsites and spectacular mountain scenery. Fishing, hiking, wildlife viewing and boating are nearby and campgrounds are spread throughout the territory along the Yukon’s network of 11 adventure highways. Self-registration at all government campgrounds Everyone – residents and visitors – must self-register at all Government of Yukon campgrounds. There are two options for payment: visitors can deposit payment upon registration, or they can purchase daily campground permits in advance at highway lodges, gas stations, retail stores, liquor stores (outside Whitehorse), and Environment Yukon offices. Campground Facilities Our roadside campgrounds offer picnic tables, campfire pits, free firewood and at least one picnic shelter. But visitors have to make do with outhouses and various forms of water supply. Those who prefer other conveniences can try one of the Yukon’s privately operated RV parks or campgrounds. Government campgrounds do not have RV dump stations. A list of dump stations is available at Visitor Information Centres. Some campgrounds also have wheelchairaccessible picnic shelters and outhouses. Pick up a copy of A Guide to Yukon Government Campgrounds at any Visitor Information Centre for more details. How to self-register: 1. Choose a vacant campsite. Note the campsite number and your vehicle licence plate number. Go to the fee station to register. 2. Place your payment or a pre-paid permit into the self-registration envelope and fill in the required information. Daily fee $12. 3. Remove the receipt stub, seal the envelope and place it in the deposit vault. 4. Fill out the receipt stub and attach it to the site number post.
