Klondike, the largest sternwheeler to ply the Yukon River, is a Parks Canada National Historic Site. Located downtown on the banks of the Yukon River, this is one of Whitehorse’s landmark attractions. Daily guided tours offered throughout the summer. www.pc.gc.ca/ssklondike Yukon Transportation Museum Much of the Yukon’s transportation legacy has been preserved for visitors. Find out how dogsledding has challenged and entertained northerners for over a century. Learn about Alaska Highway and Canol Road history, visit the Bush Pilot Room, view a photo exhibit showcasing Yukon’s aviation history, and see a replica of Queen of the Yukon. The museum is located on the Alaska Highway next to the airport. Nearby, you’ll see the restored DC-3 airplane on a rotating pedestal that has the distinction of being the world’s largest wind vane. www.yukontransportationmuseum.ca Yukon Beringia interpretive Centre During the last ice age, a vast region called Beringia extended from Siberia across Alaska and northern Yukon. Beringia escaped glaciation and became a refuge for plants and animals like the woolly mammoth, scimitar cat and giant beaver. The centre has a fullsize cast of the largest woolly mammoth ever recovered and a reconstruction of the 24,000-year-old Bluefish Cave archaeological site, which is 50 km southwest of Old Crow, Yukon.
