An open house and first official delegate’s meeting will take place Sept. 28, 2011, for members and staff at the Guelph head office location. This will be the first company-wide event to bring members together from all four provinces. East-Gen’s board has appointed Brian O’Connor as the company’s first general manager. He leads the new organization representing 8,583 members across a service area of four provinces—Ontario, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland and Labrador. O’Connor will play a lead role integrating the two organizations, creating a vision, core values and a he company formed by the merger of Eastern Breeders Inc. and Gencor artificial insemination (AI) units will be called EastGen, recognizing the proud past of the company with a strong and distinctive name. An open competition calling for name submissions was held in April. An overwhelming response resulted in a list of 900 names being narrowed down through voting processes to a final list of seven candidates. Co-sponsored by the Ontario Forage Council and Wellington County Soil and Crop Improvement Association, it will be held in Wellington County on Wed., July 13 at the Elora Research Farms, Ariss.
