ties already on the table that U.S. federal officials could easily adopt to help realize the promise of green jobs and infrastructure such as: GIVE GREEN ROOFS CREDIT - Include green roofs in the Energy Star® program as at least being equivalent to reflective “cool roofs” that already receive a modest tax credit. This credit could be expanded to include project costs for labor and at a higher level to provide more of an incentive for larger projects. DEVELOP CAPACITY - Investing in a USD $20 million “Green Infrastructure Training and Market Development Program,” will give local governments and communities the information and tools they need to implement green infrastructure strategies in their own regions (as seen in Philadelphia). CREATE TAX INCENTIVES - Including a green roof tax incentive Michael Krause is vice chair of the Green Roofs for Healthy Cities Board of Directors and Board chair for the Green Infrastructure Foundation. He is also the founder and president of Kandiyohi Development, a renewable energy developer and sustainable development consulting firm in Minneapolis. In the past, Krause has served as executive director of the Green Institute, an environmentally oriented community development corporation, chair of the Minneapolis Consortium of Community Developers, chair of the Minnesota Environmental Initiative and as a member of the Minneapolis Planning Commission. Peter Lowitt, AICP, is director of the Devens Enterprise Commission in Devens, Massachusetts and former chair and current member of Green Roofs for Healthy Cities’ Board of Directors. Steven Peck, GRP, is the founder and president of Green Roofs for Healthy Cities and a co-founder of the Green Infrastructure Foundation.
