The host venue, 50 minutes north of Calgary, is on the northern fringe of a region notorious and famous for Chinooks, warm Pacific winds that drop to ground level on the eastern slopes of the Rockies. “Many folks would say we’re nuts for hosting a sled dog race in Chinook country. We just do the best we can,” says organizing committee member Bill Windsor. A trail along Rosebud River Valley, provides exceptional viewing as teams race in the 4dog 4-mile, 6-dog 6-mile, Skijoring and Junior classes. “It’s an incredible sight watching a 6-dog team leaping, yelping, eager to get going at the start gate.” Windsor adds “It’s an experience you’ll not soon forget.” This is a weather (snow) permitting event.
