City Style and Living - Winter 2008/2009 - (Page 53) ARRIVALS | DEPARTURES “A the quaint old towns and vineyard aer vineyard “ A YEAR IN MY SHOES NAME: Ann & David Pike JUST RETURNED FROM:Paris and Provence, France INSPIRATION FOR VISITING: In Paris we went to visit the tourist sites. In Provence we went to relax and drink wine and eat cheese in the sidewalk cafés and restaurants. MUST SEE: Very difficult to say, we enjoyed every aspect of our vacation. When we were in Paris, the Palace and Gardens at Versailles (just outside of Paris) were beautiful. In Provence all the quaint old towns and vineyard after vineyard and of course the markets were a must see. NOT WORTH THE HYPE: Le Louvre, too big and crowded. BEST SOUVENIR FROM YOUR TRIP: A dish, made and painted in Rousillon with paint made from the Ocra hills. WORTH THE SPLURGE: Oil painting of an Abbey with lavender fields in full bloom. We visited the Abbey but the lavender had already been harvested, it would have been lovely to see in real life. MUST HAVE: One item that was a must was the GPS system. OMBUDSPERSON HELP! She was thirty-five years old and devastated. At the time of her husband’s illness, the couple had decided to improve their health, give up their stressful jobs, and emigrate from London, England, to Calgary, Canada. Now, nearly paralyzed by fear, Louise knew she was about to experience the fight of her life. Within a few days of her diagnosis, Louise sent an e-mail message to her family and friends, informing them of her illness. Reading the responses was painful for her, but the messages helped keep hope alive. Since then, Louise has learned the vital importance of building a support network, receiving needed help, staying positive, and believing in the cure. After completing radiation and chemotherapy, Louise became cancer-free and now leads a new and fuller life. Inspiring, insightful, and healing, A Year in My Shoes illustrates how to take a terrible situation, face it bravely, and turn it into a positive experience. Many will benefit from Louise’s candid diary of the toughest challenge she has ever faced. citystyleandliving.com | WINTER 2008/09 | 53 http://www.louiselampard.com http://www.citystyleandliving.com
