PRESIDENT'S VOLUNTEER AWARD WINNERS
As a volunteer-led organization, OSPE relies on the skills and dedication of our members to help us advocate on behalf of the
engineering profession. Each year, OSPE chooses to acknowledge some of our most exceptional and dedicated volunteers with the
OSPE President's Volunteer Award. This award is a prestigious and unique recognition for volunteers who go above and beyond
in effecting positive change for the engineering profession in Ontario.
THIS YEAR OSPE IS RECOGNIZING:

Paul Acchione, P.Eng.

Over the span of the past three years Paul Acchione has made tremendous contributions
to the engineering community - advancing our reputation with both the government
and the public.
Carrying forward on his work as Past Chair, Paul has been a prolific contributor as
a current member of OSPE's Energy Task Force. In 2016, he was the primary author of
OSPE's submission to Ontario's 2017 Long-Term Energy Plan (LTEP). Paul also played a
key leadership role in attracting OSPE's acceptance into Ontario's Electric and Hydrogen
Vehicle Advancement Partnership (EHVAP).
Paul has an unwavering commitment to the betterment of his profession and the force
that engineers should aspire to be. He is a thoughtful, multi-talented and knowledgeable
leader who has achieved personal success by placing his focusing on helping others.

Valerie Davidson, PhD, P.Eng.

For more than three decades, Valerie Davidson has been a passionate and dedicated
advocate for creating a diverse and inclusive engineering profession.
Valerie has been an important project advisor when developing proposals, securing
government funding, and implementing two Status of Women Canada (SWC) funded
OSPE programs for women in STEM. She played a key role as project advisor to OSPE's
two-year pilot mentorship program for women in the early stages of their engineering
careers. She is also one of three project leaders for the current Pan-Canadian SWC-funded
project, supporting the development of tools to address systemic barriers that contribute
to the underrepresentation of women in STEM.
Dr. Davidson has advocated for the profession through OSPE, where she has been a
dedicated volunteer. She has served on the Board of Directors, as well as participating in
various committees, task forces and special project positions.

Steven Rose, P.Eng.

Steven Rose is a former Board Director who has devoted much of his time to supporting
and advancing OSPE. Whether he was serving as an Executive of the Board (Vice-Chair),
Committee Chair (Environment Task Force, Career and Professional Services, Discipline) or in other capacities (CSPE Trustee, JRC, Foundation for Education).
Steven significantly contributed to the excess soils report which was presented at
OSPE's Queen's Park reception in 2016. This report raised OSPE's profile with government, producing greater credibility and influence for the society.
Steven was a well-respected member of the Board, his integrity, character and professionalism are demonstrated in all facets of his various OSPE volunteer activities.
