eIT summIT
On June 17, 2017, OSPE held its second annual EIT Summit at the
Centre for Health and Safety Innovation in Mississauga. The day
consisted of short, concurrent presentations and workshops which
guided attendees through the EIT process, and the OSPE support
services available for those looking to obtain their P.Eng. designation.
The summit was also a great opportunity for students, new grads,
and EITs to network with each other. The event was a success, as the
feedback OSPE received from attendees regarding the speakers, topics
of discussion, and overall event was very positive. Many attendees
indicated that they had gained a better understanding of:
* What the PEO EIT application process looks like
* How to prepare for the Professional Practice Exam (PPE)
* How to create a PEO Experience Record
* What to expect about PEO requests to attend the Experience
Requirements Committee (ERC) Interview
* How a membership with OSPE helps to prepare for licensure and
with employment through our Engineering Employment Events
(E3), which are OSPE's job fairs that include companies specifically
offering engineering roles
At this year's summit, OSPE also surveyed attendees to understand
what matters to students and new grads, and how OSPE can help. Two
surveys were conducted - one for members, and another for nonmembers. The surveys were also highly successful, with over 73% of
attendees responding. Here are some of the findings:
* 95% of current members plan on continuing to be a member
* Over 70% of members have a very positive overall opinion of OSPE
* Majority of member respondents are very satisfied with the current
benefits of their OSPE membership
* Most non-member respondents believe OSPE is very transparent
about our advocacy outcomes
* Majority of member and non-member respondents became OSPE
members for Career & Employment Resources
OSPE would like to express appreciation to all respondents for taking
the time to provide valuable feedback and letting OSPE know what
they expect from their advocacy organization.
All survey participants had the opportunity to enter in a draw for a
chance to win a prize. Survey respondent, Stephen Hibbert, was the
lucky winner of a free Apple TV.
The survey results indicate that OSPE is on the right track
in serving the needs of the student, intern, and new grad
demographic. This year's EIT Summit is one of many
more events to come, and OSPE will continue to take
member and non-member feedback into consideration,
to further improve the member experience.
