he Conference Board of Canada, a not-for-profit think tank dedicated to researching
and analyzing economic trends, reports that Canada remains near the bottom of
its peer group on innovation, ranking 9th among the 16 peer countries.
In an effort to address this trend, Western Engineering is preparing students to
assume leadership roles in today's rapidly evolving global economy. A unique and
ground-breaking relationship was established with the Ivey Business School - one
of the top business schools in the world. This collaboration with Ivey sets Western
Engineering apart from other universities across the province. Through this partnership,
Engineering students can pursue the Engineering/Ivey HBA Dual Degree program or
explore the joint MBA/MEng postgraduate program.
"Pursuing a dual degree in Software Engineering and Business has opened many
doors for me," said alumna Laura Perry, BESc/HBA'16. "Learning more about business
has allowed me to see new ways I can apply my software skills and passion beyond what
I have learned in engineering alone."
Western Engineering recognizes that great engineering careers are built on leadership
and innovation. Now, more than ever, the most respected companies worldwide rely on
critical thinking and analytical skills to achieve breakthrough engineering technologies.
Industry leaders are looking for employees who possess an understanding of the basic
principles of business and corporate dynamics.
