SUSTAINABILITY STAR
SLC achieved LEED Gold status after surpassing the original goal of LEED Silver . LEED-certified buildings are those deemed to be resource-efficient (using less water and energy and reducing greenhouse gas emissions) through independent certification.

UNIVERSITY PRESENCE ON YONGE STREET
The Student Learning Centre was designed by a partnership between two renowned architectural firms: Snøhetta & Zeidler Partnership Architects. It opened in February 2015, providing much needed study, co-working, and social space for students.

STUDENT INPUT
The all-glass façade was advocated by students requesting natural light in a 2008 survey. The frit pattern on the glass exterior walls is also a bird strike mitigation technique.

GREEN FEATURES
Features that contribute to the SLC’s LEED Gold status are green roofs, waterconserving plumbing fixtures, a roof and ground water collection system designed to harvest storm water, and a transparent, temperature-moderating glass exterior.

BEST BUILDING
Azure Magazine named the SLC one of 10 best buildings of 2015, the only building to make the list from Canada.

AWARDS
Among its awards, the SLC has won the highest design award given by the prestigious American Institute of Architects New York (AIANY) – the 2016 AIANY Honor Award. Other awards include: 2015 OGMA Award for Excellence in Architectural Glass and Metal Execution (Flynn Canada), 2015 Glass Magazine Award for Most Innovative Decorative Glass Project, Exterior (Prelco), and the 2011 Canadian Architect Award of Excellence.
