A freelance journalist and contributing editor of Verge Magazine, Jessica Wynne Lockhart's bylines have appeared in the Toronto Star, enRoute and Chatelaine. CARLOS OSORIO
Photographer, The Toronto new wave (p. 14)

Freelancer Carlos Osorio is an award-winning Salvadoran Canadian photographer formerly of the Toronto Star. “Seeing students passionate about filmmaking was great,” he says about the cover story shoot of film students in their studio class. “The entire time I was thinking that one of these students might go on to make my new binge-worthy TV series or film.”

SARAH PALMER
Image Arts ’08
Photographer, Nature hike (p. 29)
Sarah Palmer’s exploration of pop culture has taken her to South Korea for the Olympics, across the U.S. for politics and wrestling rings in Etobicoke. Her favourite Ryerson teacher was Iain Cameron because he pushed her to find her voice as an artist. The alumni hike made for a great day of conversation and terrifying cliff jumping!

LETTER FROM THE EDITOR

How do millennial filmmakers carve their place in a competitive field? In this issue’s cover story, you’ll meet some Torontobased image arts and documentary media grads who are applying the storytelling and technical skills they learned at Ryerson to creatively make successful films in their own style. The photographs in the story and on the cover depict a thirdyear cinematography class in the university film studio – the start of something big.
