Science Communication
We aim to support Ryerson scientists to
communicate about their research, increase
science literacy and foster critical thinking.
Our broad-based communications plan
includes messaging on multiple platforms
including social media, as well as popular
mainstream publications.

Outreach
We seek to give youth new opportunities
for experiential learning, particularly for
demographics under-represented in STEM
fields. Activities have included:
* Running summer camps for children with
Ryerson engineering programs.
* Mentoring elementary school students in
Toronto's vulnerable communities through
collaboration with Visions of Science
Network for Learning.
* Tutoring high school students through the
Pathways to Education program.
* Becoming a member of the Mozilla Hive
Toronto Learning Network.
* Working with the Ontario Science Centre,
contributing to programming such
as MythBusters.
* Working with the Let's Talk Science
organization.
* Launching the first North American
location of the award-winning program
Soapbox Science, a unique platform
allowing women scientists to explain their
work in an engaging, accessible format.
* Delivering workshops and presentations at
elementary and high school conferences.

Public Engagement
Engagement opportunities for the broader
community have included:
* Science Rendezvous, hosted annually
at Yonge-Dundas Square in downtown
Toronto.
* Science café events, hosted throughout
the year for the general public on topics
ranging from climate change to genetically
modified organisms.
* Hour of Code sessions for adults to learn
computer coding.
