Cityscapes around town Animal Spotting There are a multitude of animals grazing the grand metropolis of Toronto and slightly beyond. Here, our favourite places to spot the sometimes cuddly, sometimes slimy and always engaging creatures. At Reptilia (in Vaughan, www.reptilia.org), visit Induna, Canada’s largest crocodile. Induna’s prehistoric ancestors can be visited at the Royal Ontario Museum, where the kids can roll up their sleeves and go digging for dino bones. For a closer look and feel, cozy up to the new kids (baby goats), cows, horses, sheep and rabbits in the city’s Riverdale Farm (www.friendsofriverdalefarm.com), a working farm right in the downtown neighbourhood of Cabbagetown. Take in a real safari adventure at African Lion Safari (in Cambridge, www.lionsafari.com), where a troop of baboons, majestic lions and graceful giraffes greet visitors in their own cars. Venture further into the savanna and other global habitats at the Toronto Zoo (www.torontozoo.com), home to 5,000 animals and exhibits. Don’t miss the Great Barrier Reef display in the newly renovated Australasia Pavilion. Hear the call of the jungle from life-like elephants, apes and snakes while dining in the Rainforest Cafe (located in Yorkdale Shopping Centre). But if you’re hoping to kick it up a step, enjoy the live jousting tournaments among knights on their agile stallions at Medieval Times (at Exhibition Place, www.medievaltimes.com). — Fina Scroppo 16 | www.SeeTorontoNow.com Photos: (frog) Jodel Jiminez; (lion, elephant) Ontario Tourism; (horses) Medieval Times; (polar bear) Jennifer Pidgen
