Toronto Tourism Magazine 2009 - (Page 28) Faces of Toronto Photos by KC Armstrong What defines a city? Without question its people. Nowhere is that more true than Toronto. Its skyscrapers may form a skeleton, its streets the sinew, but the people that populate this city are its lifeblood. Every year, 55,000 people leave their native lands to make Toronto home and that steady stream of fresh, new faces makes this city an exciting, everchanging place to be. Getenet Abeje Zeleke Age: 46 Occupation: Parking Attendant Country of Origin: Ethiopia Neighbourhood I Live In: Moss Park I Love Toronto Because: Toronto is so multicultural. First Impression of Toronto: The CN Tower! And the city’s great transit system. I also love that here I get the freedom to speak. Judea Antonio Age: 21 Occupation: Apprentice Chef Country of Origin: Philippines Neighbourhood I Live In: Etobicoke I Love Toronto Because: It’s a multi-faceted city that celebrates people from all cultures and walks of life. Plus, I love the dichotomy of the city — one minute you’re at High Park enjoying the tranquility of the woods and just on the other side is the hustle and bustle of the streets and shops. There are just so many quaint spots to hang out at and explore, like Kensington Market or Queen Street. First Impression of Toronto: I came here when I was 11 and while the big city was a little overwhelming at first, I saw it as a new place to discover and explore. It was different and refreshing and beautiful all at the same time. 28 | www.SeeTorontoNow.com http://www.seetorontonow.com
