4 p.m. Downtown ‘Suits’ head out early from the towering buildings of the city’s Financial District to board the Queen car en route to a squash match or the local fitness centre before boarding the streetcar again to head home. Fact: In 1990, the TTC introduced a proof-of-payment (POP) system on the Queen 501. Riders who have a valid transfer or pass can board any streetcar stop on Queen Street, using front or rear doors, without showing their ticket. Occasionally, they may be subject to random ticket inspections by the commission’s special constables. The TTC’s double-length ALRV model streetcars typically service the 501 Queen route. Downtown Sights to see on this route include the super-sized mural at Velotique, a popular sports supply store (at Queen Street East and Coxwell). 34 | www.SeeTorontoNow.com http://www.seetorontonow.com
