Toronto Tourism Magazine 2009 - (Page 55) From bargains to boutiques – welcome to shopping paradise Whether a Hugo Boss aficionado or a discount jean queen, there’s something for every shopper in York Region and North Toronto. Savvy shoppers with a unique style sense should venture to Vaughan Mills shopping centre, which boasts a unique collection of 250 fashion, outlets, dining and entertainment concepts. For the outdoorsy type at heart, there’s Bass Pro Shops with daily fish feeding at its 30,000 gallon fish tank. Lux label gurus will be thrilled at the assortment of designer brands — including A/X Armani Exchange, Tommy Hilfiger (the world’s largest), Calvin Klein, Hugo Boss, Lacoste and other high-end labels at Holt Renfrew Last Call. Pro Hockey Life (Canada’s first), NIKE Factory Store, Lucky Strike Lanes bowling and NASCAR SpeedPark won’t disappoint sports fans either. For real bargain hunters, make a trip to Colossus Centre mall (Hwy. 7 and Weston Road) where several outdoor complexes bring the shopper a large assortment of outlet stores. Top off the shopping experience with a movie (next to the centre) or grab a bite in one of several family restaurants. Take in the picturesque surroundings of several charming boutique towns across the region for a truly unique shopping experience. The quaint, scenic towns of Kleinburg, Unionville and King City, for example, take you back to the 19th century while shopping for unique wares in a host of shops and independent stores. Savour a homemade ice cream and baked goods as you stroll the unique shops. Those who can’t wait to hit the hills will want to check out Old Firehall Sports in Unionville for quality ski and snowboarding gear. (For more on “Boutique Towns,” see Cityscapes, page 15.)
