Toronto Tourism Magazine 2009 - (Page 63) Festivals and fun Under the cover of colourful autumn leaves and crisp temperatures, fans of weeping guitar solos and moody lyrics flock to the three-day Southside Shuffle Jazz and Blues Festival in the Mississauga village of Port Credit. Held in early September, the festival features international jazz and blues performers in a combination of free public events and main stage concerts. A key part of the three-day event is the Street Shuffle, a massive main street dance party, concert and parade. Featured festival performers include artists like the legendary harmonica player Charlie Musselwhite, The Funk Brothers and Grammy Award-winning act Average White Band. Held annually on the first Saturday in June, the Streetsville Bread and Honey Festival is a tip of the hat to one of the town’s founding industries, flour mills. Guests receive free locally produced bread and honey at the three-day event, and can enjoy strolling through scenic Streetsville, first settled in 1819, with deliciously sticky fingers. Held on the bucolic banks of the Credit River, the festival features free entertainment, arts and crafts booths, a petting zoo, pony rides, face painting and children’s crafts. Opposite: Junior hockey, along with amateur soccer, in Mississauga. Clockwise from top: Big-act names perform at the Southside Shuffle; Enjoy the farm animals and, what else, lots of honey at the Streetsville Bread and Honey Festival. Photos: (top) Roger H.
