Starting in November, non-stop scheduled and charter flights will whisk you away to the exotic locales of Cancun, Riviera Maya, Puerto Vallarta, and Los Cabos. CANCUN From archaeological sites to riches, Cancun has it all, offering an exotic, tropical island setting buoyed by modern comforts and conveniences. In fact, it’s hard to imagine a site better endowed with natural, cultural, and manmade attractions. Cancun is comprised of three distinct but integrated areas: the City of Cancun, a raffish boomtown of more than 600,000 people, popular for shopping, dining, and less expensive accommodations; the ecological reserve - lovely lagoons and mangroves; and the Hotel Zone, a 14-mile-long ribbon of sand, shaped like the number 7. The beaches here must be seen to be believed: silky smooth, sugar-white sand, lapped by the turquoise and emerald waters of the Caribbean. Properties in the Hotel Zone are located in one of three areas: on the Bay (Bahía de Mujeres, the top of the island’s “7” shape), the Caribbean Sea (the long side of the island with wide, sandy beaches) or the lagoon (Laguna Nichupté). Popular day tours to sites like Tulum, Coba, and Chichen Itza afford visitors the opportunity to appreciate the work of one of the world’s most advanced ancient societies. Beyond the area’s famous archaeological sites, the Mayan culture has survived despite tourism’s rapid encroachment. Shopping is top notch, with more than a dozen American-style shopping malls. Dining options (there are more than 200 restaurants) include every imaginable fast food chain along with gourmet seafood, Asian, Caribbean, American and Mexican specialties, to name a few. Outdoor recreation - water sports, in particular is first rate. Sports enthusiasts can choose from 22 marinas and water sports centers, several 18-hole golf courses (both in Cancun and along the Riviera Maya), and several water-bound adventure activities (submarine rides to jet ski tours). RIVIERA MAYA As most everyone knows, Mexico’s Caribbean coast and the resorts of Cancun and Cozumel have become two of the world’s most popular playgrounds. What many don’t realize is that south of Cancun there is a region taking shape as Mexico’s newest, and perhaps most unique, holiday land.
