YLW Connection - Summer 2009 - (Page 21)

Kelowna is ripe with surprises. Here are 25 of them. Spend some time with this list then spend a little more time here in Kelowna. You’ll discover more things to experience than first meet the eye (and there are a lot of beautiful things that first meet your eye). Visitors have found that the more they know about the places in and around Kelowna the more time they want to stay. Surprise yourself. 1. Nicknamed “Napa North”, there are 17 wineries within a half-hour of downtown Kelowna and 130 wineries in the Okanagan Valley. Cheers. 3. From our mountain tops to the bottom of Okanagan Lake, the valley is deeper than the Grand Canyon. That’s really uplifting. 4. Tree fruit grown in Kelowna includes cherries, apricots, peaches, plums, pears, apples, hazelnuts, chestnuts, walnuts, and even Ginko fruit. That’s a juicy fact. 5. The Kelowna Farmers’ & Crafters’ Market is the largest in BC. It’s a great place to go for fresh ideas. 2. The breathtakingly and historic Myra Canyon, part of the Trans Canada Trail, showcases 18 spectacular trestle bridges and 2 tunnels through the mountain side. Visit it on foot or from the saddle of your bike. Better yet, take a guided tour with Monashee Adventure Tours and get to know all the juicy background. It’s sure to keep your camera clicking!
