Whether you are anxious to get home to visit family and friends, or escape to a winter getaway in the sun, here are some helpful packing tips that will make your air travel more about the destination and less about the common stressors of flying: • Leave gifts unwrapped until you arrive at your destination, as their contents may need to be inspected. • Baked goods can be packed in your carry-on baggage. • Alcoholic beverages must be in their original container, indicating alcohol content, with the commercial seal intact. • All cameras must be inspected by x-ray. Camera film should be packed in carry-on baggage as x-ray equipment at pre-board screening will not damage film under 800 ASA/ISO. Most amateur photographers use film in the 100400 ISO/ASA range. For film over 800 ASA/ISO, you may request a hand search, in which case you must take the film out of your camera. Digital disks are unaffected and can be packed in any baggage. • Skis, snowboards and skates are not allowed as carry-on baggage. Place these items in checked baggage. Not sure where to pack an item? Consult the CATSA website at www.catsa-acsta.gc.ca and check out the new Pack Smart page and, while you are there, try the new Prep & Fly travel tool to customize your own packing checklist.
