Now it’s a perfect place to time travel—to see the innovative techniques Biltmore brought to horticulture, forestry, gardens, and dairy operations, and to see the role agriculture plays on the estate today. At the historic River Bend Barn, talented blacksmiths, woodworkers, and craftspeople demonstrate skills that were essential to farming while interpreters expand on our agricultural legacy. Seasonal events like fall’s Harvest Celebration take you back into simpler times with music, games, horse plowing, corn shelling, and sheep shearing. There are plenty of ways to have fun here. Cool your taste buds with an ice cream treat before heading out on a horse-drawn wagon ride. Introduce yourself to calves, lambs, and our team of draft horses at the Farmyard, and stroll the Kitchen Garden to see what delicacies are ready for harvest. With all River Bend Farm offers, it’s not hard to imagine the rich life that once existed here.
