New for 2008 I F T H E S E WA L L S C O U L D TA L K : P R E S E R V I N G T H E STO R I E S O F B I L T M O R E Visiting Biltmore today, you see what can be accomplished by a century of inspiration, hard work, and dedicated people. Each day, talented professionals work to preserve and maintain Biltmore House and the 8,000-acre estate. As part of our preservation mission, we are restoring four rooms on the Second Floor that will open in 2009. Detective work to uncover clues to the original appearance of these rooms is producing a treasure trove of stories and information about the people who called Biltmore home. We are highlighting these discoveries in a new exhibition in Biltmore House opening May 30, 2008 titled If These Walls Could Talk. The exhibition includes: • Ongoing restoration of the Louis XV Room, where two generations of Vanderbilts were born including George and Edith’s daughter Cornelia. • The search for clues through archival photographs, family histories, stories passed from one generation to the next, and traces of historic wallpaper and paint.
