Situated on a peninsula between the Cape Fear River and the Atlantic Ocean, historic Wilmington found itself in the perfect position to develop into both a thriving shipbuilding community and a bustling seaside trade port. And as successive economic booms swept through town, they left in their wake a treasure trove of architectural marvels and more than a few unexpected business ventures. As a result, every corner you turn reveals something unexpected: a thriving movie production studio, cobblestone streets with horse-drawn carriages, elegant restaurants, splendid gardens, a serpentarium featuring rare snakes, unique crafts, homegrown music festivals, welcoming nightspots, theatrical performances, galleries ….
